Susannah J. Volkers

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Susannah’s approach to counseling is faith-integrated and Christ-centered, with an emphasis on the intersection of Truth and psychology.

Susannah has a Master’s in Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary (DC Campus). Susannah is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, license #0701011521 which renews on 06/30 every year.

Susannah’s diverse background and life experiences allow her to empathetically and therapeutically aid clients amidst their life challenges, stressors, and suffering. Susannah has lived overseas in Shanghai and Beijing, China, providing her with a unique, cultural sensitivity and she possesses firsthand experience with teenage-international adoption. Additionally, Susannah speaks Mandarin Chinese. Susannah’s prior career in corporate sales allows her to understand balancing professional and personal development, managing multiple stressors, meeting deadlines, and honing time management.

Utilizing Christian convictions to guide her clients toward sustainable change, Susannah has past experience working alongside individuals and families with anxiety and worry, adoption, grief and loss, identity issues, life transitions, eating disorders, chronic illness, depression, and trauma.

Susannah is EMDR trained, which is an evidence-based treatment tool to help Clients with issues such as trauma. In addition, Susannah is Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) trained, a short-term treatment that eliminates problematic behaviors in children and adolescents and improves family functioning. She is also a certified facilitator in Relate Strong Marital Therapy, a marital counseling program designed to improve marriage and relationship skills. She is available to counsel individuals 8 years and up, as well as couples and families. She is a member of Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counseling (NVLPC), and Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). She hopes to partner with you in a way that provides joyful, effective, and holistic care and counseling.

Outside of the office, Susannah loves quality time with her husband Cody, and being active outdoors hiking, walking, and running. She also loves finding healthy recipes and places to eat, and is actively involved in her church.

Susannah offers therapeutic services at a rate of $225 for the initial evaluation and $175 for each additional session. Although guaranteed payment from insurance is not possible, Susannah accepts most Viriginia Anthem BCBS and Carefirst DC Capital region plans including FEPBlue and out of state BCBS. Should you desire out of network reimbursement, Susannah will provide you a statement to submit to your insurance company.
