Kim D. Arellano

Kim enjoys collaborating with individuals, couples, and families to find peace, fulfillment, and life satisfaction using evidence-based practices. Providing a safe and non-judgmental space, Kim seeks to help her clients heal at their own pace and move forward in their lives and relationships.

When working with individuals, Kim draws from experience in helping people deal with and overcome post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, betrayal, life transitions, low self-esteem, and spiritual issues. She employs Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), among others. Kim has special population training to better serve parents of emerging adults, relationships affected by ADHD, military families, and adults with career concerns. She is both trauma-responsive and neurodivergence-informed. Through this lens, she supports adults dealing with stress from relationship issues at home, with their families of origin, as well as in the workplace.

When working with couples, she aims to guide both partners toward learning and growing individually, and together in their partnership, forging a rewarding and resilient relationship. Kim is empathetic and skillful in cultivating change that matters, including improved communication, conflict management, re-establishing trust, and reviving friendship and intimacy. Kim’s experience spans young relationships, long-term marriages, blended family complexities, and couples considering divorce. She employs Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Developmental Model, the Gottman Method, and Discernment Counseling.

Kim has an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX (2016). She has been married for 26 years and has three adult children. She enjoys exploring new places, gardening, and mind-body exercise.

Kim offers virtual therapeutic services at a rate of $225 for the initial evaluation and $175 for each additional session. Although guaranteed payment from insurance is not possible, Kim accepts and is in-network with most Virginia Anthem BCBS plans. Kim is currently in the process of becoming an in-network provider for Carefirst DC Capital Region plans including FEPBlue and out-of-state BCBS. Should you desire out-of-network reimbursement, she will provide you with a statement to submit to your insurance company.
