Dr. Debra L. Rezendes, LMFT

Debra believes in the power of healthy relationships. With more than 15 years of community and clinical experience, Debra has helped families, individuals, and couples find their way back to each other and themselves. As a wife and mother of two, she understands how hard relationships can be. She is honored to sit with individuals and couples in the messy parts of their story and help them get to the heart of the issues causing them heartache and hurt. It is her mission to create an inclusive, safe space for all clients, where they feel valued, seen, and heard.

Her approach is heart-centered and brain-focused. She embraces an integrated approach to therapy that heavily leans on relational neuroscience, attachment, and somatic interventions to create deep, meaningful change. She has received specialized attachment and trauma training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART; Basic Certified), Trauma Regulation and Integration Process (TRIP), and EMDR (Certified). She is also currently receiving training in the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT). She specializes in helping people heal from attachment hurts, religious trauma, relationship difficulties, infertility, perinatal distress, body shame, and other experiences that create disconnection inside and outside of themselves.

Debra holds a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Tech, as well as a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Eastern University. As a teacher at heart, she served seven years as a full-time professor of psychology, regularly teaches undergraduate psychology courses, has been published in the Journal of Happiness Studies and Autism Research and Treatment, and is honored to support the next generation of therapists as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and VA Board Approved Clinical Supervisor.
